Come to Mitchell Pottery Studio and play with clay! We offer a selection of individual classes, short and long-term courses, along with individual and specialized workshops that allow you to explore the world of pottery. We welcome you to experience the joy of completing a clay project with your own hands, drinking from your own mug or cup, and serving food from your own dish!

Clay Buddies

The perfect way to spend time together while creating a tangible memento. Whether handbuilding or throwing on the wheel, your time will be spent learning about clay, and creating wonderful memories. Perfect for spending time with grandchildren, siblings, or friends. No children under 10 on the wheel, please.  Gift certificates are available. These sessions are popular and make a great gift idea! Glazing is done by the studio, or anyone over the age of ten can arrange a separate time to come in and glaze their own work.

Open Practice Sessions

Open to anyone who has completed at least 4 weeks of lessons at the Studio. The $25 Fee includes clay & bisque firing. Glaze firing is charged by the piece.

Clay Date

Have you always wanted to recreate that famous scene from Ghost? Book a private 3-hr session for two and enjoy an afternoon or evening of pottery bonding time with a special someone! With only the two of you and the instructor in the studio, you can experience the fun and pleasure of making a bowl on the wheel. This is a customized experience that allows you to make memories and take home a special memento of your time together. We will glaze your finished pots, or you can book a time to come back and do that yourself. Always a fun time!

Wheel Courses

These are weekly courses for groups of 2 to 6 people or customized private  teaching, with a 4-week or 8-week plan; each class is 3 hours per week. The course outline is adaptable according to enrolment and group interests. The program is extensive, allowing for the curious to get their hands dirty, and the passionate potter to develop their craft. The courses include Beginner, High Beginner, Low and High Intermediate, and Advanced levels, leading to greater mastery and individual choice with each clay project.

 

Each week begins with a demonstration by the teacher, and hands-on practice by the students. Students can expect to have at least one finished piece (bowl, mug, plate, etc) per week of class. Cost includes tool use, clay, bisque firing, glaze firing, and glazes, and glazing time.

If you want to learn alone, just you and the instructor in the studio, solo class fees are available.

Handbuilding Courses

These are weekly courses for groups or private teaching, with a 4-week or 8-week plan; each class is 3 hours. The course begins with pinch pots and progresses weekly into slab work, coiling, and attaching elements such as handles, feet, and adding embellishments. You will explore adding textures using stamps and decorating with underglazes and glaze. Project options include mugs, plates, bowls, garden markers, trays, and platters, or any idea you may want to try.

 

Students can expect to have at least one finished piece (bowl, mug, vase, plate, etc per week of class. Cost includes tool use, clay, bisque firing, glaze firing, and glazes and glazing time.
